Our Events
Monthly ND microbiologists meetup
We run a monthly virtual meet-up on Microsoft Teams as an opportunity for neurodivergent microbiologists from across the world to connect, forge community, share experiences and resources, and find neurodivergent joy. Some of our monthly meet-ups are themed as an opportunity for a focussed exploration of topics relevant to neurodivergent scientists, while others are open discussions to encourage new connections and allow new ideas and activism to germinate.
Our monthly meet-ups run on the first Monday of the month at 15:00-16:00 UK time. We have chosen this time to be accessible to as many timezones as possible, however we acknowledge that this will not suit everyone. As the ND in Micro membership grows, we hope to run more community-led events at a more diverse range of times.
Members will be sent an invite to these private, members-only events after joining ND in Micro.
2nd of February 2026: ND in Micro launches! (Welcome and open discussion.)
2nd of March 2026: to celebrate Neurodiversity Celebration Week (16-20 March), we will share and discuss neurodivergent writers, podcasters, celebrities, content creators, and historical figures we admire.
6th of April 2026: to celebrate Autism Acceptance Month, we will discuss our experiences and coping strategies for public speaking and networking. All members are welcome to join this meet-up, whether or not they identify as autistic.
4th of May 2026: open discussion.
1st of June 2026: to celebrate (LGBTQIA+) Pride Month, we will discuss intersectionality between neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ identities, and what the LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent pride movements can learn from each other. All members are welcome to join this meet-up, whether or not they identify as LGBTQIA+.
6th of July 2026: to celebrate Disability Pride Month, we will discuss the intersection between neurodivergence and disability. Some of our members proudly identify as disabled, others identify as neurodivergent but not disabled. We will explore shared and differing identities and what we can do to reduce stigma around disability.
3rd of August 2026: open discussion.
7th of September 2026: this month we will share and discuss reasonable adjustments* and strategies that have helped members overcome challenges and thrive at work.
5th of October 2026: to celebrate ADHD Awareness Month, we will discuss the ways in which neurodivergent language and culture (originating largely from the autistic community) may or may not reflect the ADHD experience. All members are welcome to join this meet-up, whether or not they identify as ADHD.
2nd of November 2026: open discussion.
7th of December 2026: as we look to the holidays, we will share the things we are looking forward to and our strategies for coping at a time that can be stressful and overwhelming for many neurodivergent people.
* “Reasonable adjustments” is a term commonly used in the UK in relation to workplace accommodations put in place to meet the needs of people with characteristics protected under the UK’s Equality Act (which includes neurodivergent and disabled people).
Fortnightly body doubling sessions
Body doubling is a technique that many ADHDers find helpful for focussing and finishing tasks. We run virtual body doubling sessions every two weeks on Microsoft Teams. These sessions provide dedicated shared quiet working time in which we hold each other to account for getting that niggling task we’ve been avoiding off our to-do list. All members are welcome to join, whether or not they identify as ADHD.
Our fortnightly meet-ups run on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at alternating times (11:00-12:00 UK time, and 15:00-16:00 UK time) to accommodate as many of our members’ schedules as possible. We appreciate these dates and times may not work for everyone, and also encourage members to arrange their own ad-hoc or regular body doubling sessions using our Discord server.
Members will be sent an invite to these private, members-only events after joining ND in Micro.
